1 SAMUEL TRIVIA III

21) What did Saul's father lose?

1 SAMUEL 9:3: Now the donkeys belonging to Saul's father Kish were lost, and Kish said to his son Saul, "Take one of the servants with you and go and look for the donkeys."

22) Where did Saul hide when Samuel named him king?

1 SAMUEL 10:20-22: When Samuel had all Israel come forward by tribes, the tribe of Benjamin was taken by lot. 21Then he brought forward the tribe of Benjamin, clan by clan, and Matri's clan was taken. Finally Saul son of Kish was taken. But when they looked for him, he was not to be found. 22So they inquired further of the Lord, "Has the man come here yet?" And the Lord said, "Yes, he has hidden himself among the supplies."

23) What did Nahash the Ammonite threaten to do to the men of Jabesh?

1 SAMUEL 11:1-2: Nahash the Ammonite went up and besieged Jabesh Gilead. And all the men of Jabesh said to him, "Make a treaty with us, and we will be subject to you." 2But Nahash the Ammonite replied, "I will make a treaty with you only on the condition that I gouge out the right eye of every one of you and so bring disgrace on all Israel."

24) Where did Saul become the king of Israel?

1 SAMUEL 11:14-15: Then Samuel said to the people, "Come, let us go to Gilgal and there renew the kingship." 15So all the people went to Gilgal and made Saul king in the presence of the Lord.

25) How old was Saul when he became king?

1 SAMUEL 13:1: Saul was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned over Israel forty-two years.

26) How many swords did Saul and his army have when they first rose up against the Philistines?

1 SAMUEL 13:19-22: Not a blacksmith could be found in the whole land of Israel, because the Philistines had said, "Otherwise the Hebrews will make swords or spears!" 20So all Israel went down to the Philistines to have their plow points, mattocks, axes and sickles sharpened. 21The price was two-thirds of a shekel for sharpening plow points and mattocks, and a third of a shekel for sharpening forks and axes and for repointing goads. 22So on the day of the battle not a soldier with Saul and Jonathan had a sword or spear in his hand; only Saul and his son Jonathan had them.

27) Why did Saul want to kill his son Jonathan?

1 SAMUEL 14:24-27: Now the Israelites were in distress that day, because Saul had bound the people under an oath, saying, "Cursed be anyone who eats food before evening comes, before I have avenged myself on my enemies!" So none of the troops tasted food. 25The entire army entered the woods, and there was honey on the ground. 26When they went into the woods, they saw the honey oozing out; yet no one put his hand to his mouth, because they feared the oath. 27 But Jonathan had not heard that his father had bound the people with the oath, so he reached out the end of the staff that was in his hand and dipped it into the honeycomb. He raised his hand to his mouth, and his eyes brightened.

28) How did David give Saul relief from the evil spirit that tormented him?

1 SAMUEL 16:23: Whenever the spirit from God came on Saul, David would take up his lyre and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him.

29) How tall was Goliath?

1 SAMUEL 17:4: A champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. His height was six cubits and a span. (Taking a cubit to be approximately eighteen inches and a span to equal six, this figures to a height of approximately nine feet, six inches.)

30) What did Saul offer as a reward to the man who could kill Goliath?

1 SAMUEL 17:25: Now the Israelites had been saying, "Do you see how this man keeps coming out? He comes out to defy Israel. The king will give great wealth to the man who kills him. He will also give him his daughter in marriage and will exempt his family from taxes in Israel."
