Logan's Run depicts a dystopian future society in which population and the consumption of resources are maintained in equilibrium by killing everyone who reaches the age of thirty. The story follows the actions of Logan, a Sandman charged with enforcing the rule, as he tracks down "runners", citizens who try to escape the killing--only to end up "running" himself.
Much to Fritz Lang's dismay, Adolf Hitler and Joseph Goebbels were big fans of his 1927 film Metropolis. Goebbels met with Lang and told him that he could be made an honorary Aryan despite his Jewish background. Goebbels told him "Mr Lang, we decide who is Jewish and who is not". Lang fled to Paris that very night.
Cleopatra (1934) was Cecil B. DeMille's first film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. (It didn't win Best Picture, but did take home the award for Best Cinematography.) The film features Claudette Colbert as Cleopatra, Warren William as Julius Caesar, and Henry Wilcoxon as Mark Antony.
In the 1998 version of The Man in the Iron Mask, D'Artagnan (played by Gabriel Byrne) jumps in front of Philippe (Leonardo DiCaprio) when he is attacked by Louis (also Leonardo DiCaprio) and takes a dagger for him. D'Artagnan dies before he can finish the musketeers' famous slogan "All for one, one for all".
As Thomas and Martha Wayne walk out of a movie theater with their son Bruce, a poster of The Mark of Zorro (1940) can be seen in the background. Most versions of the Batman origin story have the Waynes leaving a screening of the film. This trend is said to have originated because Batman was largely based on the character of Zorro.
