There is some disagreement about what to call a group of ostriches. Some sources say they should be referred to as a flock or herd, while others insist the proper term is a pride. Either way, a flock/herd/pride can consist of up to 100 birds, though most groups have about 10 members.

The ostrich has just two toes on each foot (most birds have four), with the nail on the larger, inner toe resembling a hoof. The outer toe has no nail. The reduced number of toes is an adaptation that appears to aid in running.

White eggs minimize the risk of overheating and allow the ostrich to leave its eggs unattended before incubation starts, but they are more susceptible to predation.

Madame Upanova appears with all her ostrich students in a segment called "Dance of the Hours". She also makes a cameo appearance in Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
