The Colts have been a member club of the NFL since their founding in Baltimore in 1953.

The Colts defeated the Dallas Cowboys 16-13 in Super Bowl V, which was played on January 17, 1971, at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida, on first-generation Poly-Turf.

Super Bowl V is sometimes called the "Blunder Bowl", "Blooper Bowl" or "Stupor Bowl" because it was filled with poor play, a missed PAT, penalties, turnovers, and officiating miscues.

Mitchell led the NFL in receptions in both 1974 (72 receptions) and 1977 (71 receptions).

Manning won league MVP a remarkable five times: (2003), (2004), (2008), (2009), and (2013).

In 2003, Colts kicker Mike Vanderjagt finished the regular season 37 for 37 in field goals and 46 for 46 in PATs. He was also perfect on three field-goal attempts and 12 PATs in the postseason. He did however miss a potential game tying 51-yard field goal in the Pro Bowl with three seconds left in a 55-52 loss to the NFC.

The second overall pick in the 1994 NFL Draft, Faulk was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.

The Colts' seven turnovers remain the most ever committed by a Super Bowl champion.

Super Bowl V was the first Super Bowl decided by less than a touchdown. It was finally settled when Colts rookie kicker Jim O'Brien made a 32-yard field goal with five seconds left in regulation time.

Faulk ran a 4.28 forty-yard dash, beating out Edgerrin James (4.38), Joseph Addai (4.4), and Marlon Mack (4.5).
