Words were exchanged, and when Roseboro took of his catcher's mask, Marichal struck him twice on the head with his bat, opening a two-inch gash that sent blood flowing down the catcher's face. A 14-minute brawl ensued before order was restored. Roseboro later required 14 stitches.
