The Seahawks joined the NFL in 1976 as an expansion team.

In 1983, the Seahawks hired Chuck Knox as head coach. Finishing with a 9-7 record, the Seahawks made their first post-season appearance, defeating the Denver Broncos in the Wild Card Round, and then the Miami Dolphins, before losing in the AFC Championship to the Los Angeles Raiders.

Lynch earned the nickname "Beast Mode" for his powerful running style, propensity for breaking tackles, and consistent ability to run over defenders.

In 2005, Shaun Alexander broke out by setting several records en route to a Super Bowl XL appearance with the Seahawks.

The Legion of Boom is the nickname for the defensive backs group of the Seattle Seahawks, a term widely popularized following their emergence in 2011. The group earned a reputation for consistently leading the NFL in numerous defensive categories.

Sherman was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft with the 154th overall pick.

The Seahawks had their biggest "win" before ever taking the field for a regular season game. On August 26, 1976 they traded an eighth round pick to the Houston Oilers for future Hall-of-Famer Steve Largent.

In 2015, Tyler Lockett returned a 105-yard kick return against the Chicago Bears, setting a new franchise record.

After Lynch's amazing run, Seahawks fans reacted so loudly that a small earthquake (a bit above 2 on the Richter Scale) was recorded by seismic equipment around Seattle.

They stomped the Denver Broncos 43-8 for their first championship in Super Bowl XLVIII.
