Wolverine appeared in the last panel of The Incredible Hulk #180 before having a larger role in issue #181.
Wolverine was born as James Howlett in northern Alberta, Canada, during the late 1880s, purportedly to rich farm owners John and Elizabeth Howlett, though he was actually the illegitimate son of the Howletts' groundskeeper, Thomas Logan. He would later adopt the name Logan while working at a mining colony in the Yukon.
Magneto ripped the adamantium from Wolverine's body. The massive trauma caused his healing factor to burn out, and he left the X-Men for a time. Eventually, the villain Apocalypse captured Wolverine, brainwashed him into becoming the Horseman Death, and successfully re-bonded adamantium to his skeleton.
After World War II, Logan married Itsu, a Japanese woman who conceived his child. When Logan returned home one day, he found Itsu's lifeless body, and presumed the unborn baby to be dead as well. He later discovered it was the Winter Soldier who killed her, and that his unborn child had been cut from Itsu's womb.
X-23 is Wolverine's clone and later his adopted daughter. Created to be the perfect killing machine, she proved herself a capable assassin working for an organization called the Facility.
Wolverine managed to escape from Hell with the help of his girlfriend Melita Garner, Daimon Hellstrom, and the Ghost Rider. However, his body was still possessed by demons.
Wolverine was engaged to Mariko Yashida, the Silver Samurai's half-sister, but their wedding was halted by the supervillain Mastermind, who used his telepathic powers to change Mariko's mind.
On top of being a prominent member of the X-Men and X-Force, Wolverine has been a member of the Avengers and even the Fantastic Four. The only other character to be on the same four teams was Storm.
Maureen was Logan's wife and the mother of his children, Scotty and Jade. She and her children were killed by the Hulk Gang while Logan was away.
