The Red Spot is a modern urban legend that emerged in Europe during the 1970s. It features a young woman who is bitten on the cheek by a spider. The spider bite swells into a large boil and soon bursts open to reveal hundreds of tiny spiders escaping from her cheek.

In West Virginia folklore, the Mothman is a large man-like creature with ten foot wings and red eyes reportedly seen in the Point Pleasant area from 11/12/66-12/15/67. Sightings of the Mothman peaked just prior to the December 15, 1967 collapse of the Silver Bridge which killed 46 people and gave rise to the legend that the Mothman was somehow connected to the disaster.

In 1984, an article about an experimental well in the Kola Peninsula of northern Russia appeared in Scientific American. The well reached 12km into the ground and the scientists encountered rare rock formations, flows of gas and water and temperatures up to 180 degrees. At some point this story transformed into the "Well to Hell" legend and in 1989 the Trinity Broadcasting Network aired a story claiming that scientists in Siberia had punched a hole through to Hell, and that the screams of the damned could be heard drifting up to them.

The Slender Man is a supernatural character that originated as a creepypasta internet meme created by Something Awful forums user Eric Knudsen (aka "Victor Surge") in 2009. He is depicted as a thin, unnaturally tall humanoid with a featureless head and face and wearing a black suit. Stories of the Slender Man commonly feature him stalking, abducting or traumatizing people, particularly children.
Known by several names, El Cuco is a mythical ghost-monster, equivalent to the boogeyman, that will kidnap and eat children. In King's story, El Cuco is a shape-shifter that is able to steal a person's DNA to take on their form and commit unspeakable crimes.
