King Kong, starring Fay Wray, Bruce Cabot and Robert Armstrong, opened in New York City on March 2, 1933, to rave reviews. It has been ranked by Rotten Tomatoes as the fourth greatest horror film of all time.

In New York Harbor, filmmaker Carl Denham, known for wildlife films in remote and exotic locations, charters Captain Englehorn's ship, the Venture, for his latest project.

Unable to secure an actress for his new film, Denham stumbles onto the beautiful but broke Ann Darrow as she is about to steal an apple from a fruit stand. Anxious for work, Ann eagerly accepts Denham's offer of employment and agrees without question to make the long sea voyage the next morning.

Although the island is never mentioned by name in the original film, there is a distinctive rocky knoll in the center of the island that is shaped like a human skull, which is referred to as "Skull Mountain".

It is located at approximately 12°S 78°E -- somewhere off the coast of Periuk, Indonesia.

The village is separated from the rest of the island by an ancient stone wall.

When he sees Ann, the chief offers to trade six of his tribal women for the "golden woman". The crew rebuffs him, but that night the natives kidnap Ann from the ship and tie her to an altar as an offering to Kong.

Denham, Jack and a handful of the ship's men follow a trail of broken branches left by Kong and soon stumble on a horny-tailed stegosaurus, which they kill with gas bombs.

After constructing a raft to cross a river, the crew is attacked by a mean-tempered brontosaurus. After losing several men, the survivors scramble to the river's shore where they are spotted by Kong.

When the T. Rex threatens Ann, Kong wrestles it to the ground and snaps its jaw.
