Now the doctor ... proceeded to lie on the table
The song appeared on Side Two of the White Album.
The Old West-style honky-tonk piano was played by producer George Martin.
The title character was originally called "Rocky Sassoon", but McCartney changed it to "Rocky Raccoon" because he thought "it sounded more like a cowboy".
McCartney began writing the song in Rishikesh, India, where the Beatles were studying Transcendental Meditation in the early months of 1968.
The song was taped in a single session, and was one of the tracks that Martin felt was "filler" and only put on because the album was a double.
