After a single term, he returned to Illinois and resumed his successful law practice.

Lincoln's stovepipe top hat served as more than fashionable headgear. He used it to store and carry notes, letters, even bills.

Lincoln served as the 16th President of the United States from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865.
