The Federalist Papers is a collection of 85 articles and essays written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay under the pseudonym "Publius" to promote the ratification of the United States Constitution.
Despite lacking foreign policy experience, Madison was appointed as Secretary of State by Jefferson. He served in that position from 1801 to 1809.
James Madison was born on March 16, 1751, in Port Conway, Virginia, and raised on a plantation in sight of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
